Teeth Whitening Risks
There are a few side effects of teeth whitening that you
should be aware of. These are listed below. If you experience
severe side effects you should consult a Buffalo
dentist.
Tooth and Gum Sensitivity
The most common side effects from tooth whitening are tooth
sensitivity and gum irritation. Gum irritation is usually
caused by a mouth tray that does not fit properly. Tooth
sensitivity usually occurs when you first start the whitening
process. If you encounter either of these side effects, you
should wear your tray for a shorter period of time and maybe
take a break for a few days. You can also use Crest enamel
toothpaste to help strengthen your teeth. You can buy this at
any grocery store in Buffalo.
Composite Fillings, Crowns, and Veneers
Teeth whitening will not work on crowns, veneers or
composite fillings. In fact, you may end up with different
colored teeth unless you replace the crown or veneer. If you
are planning on a having any composite work done on your teeth,
it is recommended to have it done before whitening. Otherwise
it will need to be replaced.
Tetracycline Staining
If your teeth are severely stained by tetracycline you might
not experience a dramatic improvement with teeth bleaching.
However, whitening should help after continued treatment.
Allergies
Obviously, anyone allergic to peroxide should not use a
teeth whitening product.
